{"id":583,"date":"2009-01-14T03:00:01","date_gmt":"2009-01-14T11:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cindyprocter-king.com\/blog\/?p=583"},"modified":"2009-01-11T13:48:18","modified_gmt":"2009-01-11T21:48:18","slug":"welcome-guest-blogger-tina-ferraro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cindyprocter-king.com\/blog\/welcome-guest-blogger-tina-ferraro\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome Guest Blogger Tina Ferraro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-584\" title=\"ferraro_pic1\" src=\"https:\/\/cindyprocter-king.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/ferraro_pic1.jpg\" alt=\"ferraro_pic1\" width=\"80\" height=\"95\" \/>BEFORE I LEARNED MY ABC&#8217;S&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I have been asked several times by interviewers how I came up with the idea for my January release, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/ABCs-Kissing-Boys-Tina-Ferraro\/dp\/0385735820\/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1224211990&amp;sr=1-3\" target=\"_blank\">The ABC&#8217;s of Kissing Boys<\/a>. \u00a0A good question, whose answer\u2014in a nutshell\u2014is that I knew I wanted to do a soccer story, but then was struck with <em>this<\/em> title idea, and racked my brains to find a way to make it all work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The truth, though, is that the idea was the easy part.\u00a0 The real labor of love was bringing this story to life: finding the right tone, the right characters, the <em>flow<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The book takes place in Minnesota, so it being the land of 10,000 lakes, it seemed natural to open the book on a lakeshore. And I loved the idea of a group of teens playing the kissing game, Dentist.\u00a0 Every morning I got up before sunrise and started pounding away on it. \u00a0I felt sure if I worked long enough\/hard enough, this &#8220;great idea&#8221; of mine would take shape.\u00a0 Days passed.\u00a0 Weeks.\u00a0 I moved from page to page until I had to take Advil to ease eyestrain and headache.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-590\" title=\"ferraro_kissing_boys\" src=\"https:\/\/cindyprocter-king.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/ferraro_kissing_boys.jpg\" alt=\"ferraro_kissing_boys\" width=\"160\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cindyprocter-king.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/ferraro_kissing_boys.jpg 160w, https:\/\/cindyprocter-king.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/ferraro_kissing_boys-97x150.jpg 97w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 160px) 100vw, 160px\" \/>I started feeling like the living embodiment of that old joke about the writer who boasts that he wrote forty pages that week. Forty <em>first <\/em>pages.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">My critique partner, author Kelly Parra, was infinitely patient with me as the weeks turned into months, reading attempt after attempt, encouraging me, making suggestions, and holding my cold, clammy hand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Still, the day came when my agent, Nadia Cornier, called to find out why she still hadn&#8217;t seen a first chapter.\u00a0 I caved.\u00a0 I told her my eyes had gone blurry, my head blank.\u00a0 The story wasn&#8217;t working, I was going to quit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Now, if any of you know Nadia, you will not be surprised by her reaction.\u00a0 Instead of accepting this news, she basically got in my face and told me to go try again.
