Tell Me Tuesday

How’s everyone doing? Any news to report?

I can’t believe I’ve finally made it past page 100 in my WIP. Yay, yay, sis-boom-bah. I still have a fair bit of new writing to wade through before I get to revise scenes I fast-drafted during my never-to-be-repeated NaNoWriMo experiment. I’m sure I’ll appreciate NaNoWriMo once I revise those scenes, but right now the whole idea of knowing where the story is going just aggravates me. Someone please remind me why I did this? Oh, yeah, to prove I couldn’t.

I also signed up for my RWA National editor/agent appointments yesterday. The PAN/PRO appointment schedule doesn’t open up until next Monday, May 5th. However, as a Golden Heart ’07 finalist, I was allowed one week’s head-start. For anyone interested, after the GH and RITA ’08 finalists finished chewing through the appointment schedule this past week, I’m happy to report that as of this morning when I logged onto the RWA website, there was only one agent not showing any available appointments left. A couple of other agents look like they won’t have appointments left in a matter of days (including the agent I booked—sorry!), but still others remain wide open. So I nabbed my agent appointment, and then I grabbity-quick headed to book an editor slot (oops, no, actually, it was the other way around—I booked the editor appointment first). An editor at a major single title publishing house requested one of my full manuscripts in the fall and looked at it rather quickly, then gave an encouraging rejection letter asking to see more of my work. So I felt it wise to get some face-to-face time with her.

I also have one other piece of good news to report, but I received it right before I wrote this post, and now I want to hoard it, rub its belly, and kiss its nose. Return Wednesday, though, and I’ll share.

Don’t worry, it was a freak snowstorm. We don’t usually get snow in the middle of April.

Tell Me Tuesday–The Lories!

Yippee, I’m having an excellent Tuesday. Last night I found out that BORROWING ALEX WON the Contemporary category of the From the Heart Romance Writers’ The Lories Best Published contest. The winners of each category now go to a bookseller for ranking, and the ultimate overall winner will receive a conference fee to RWA National or Romantic Times or a similar conference. How cool is that?

Other than that, I need to do page proofs (also called galleys or author’s alterations, depending on the publisher) for my Alter Ego’s December ’08 release. I want to finish writing a scene in my cindypk WIP first. But after that I better get hopping on the page proofs, because My Liege was very, very sick beginning Sunday night. He spent all yesterday in bed and bagged out in front of the TV. I’m hoping I don’t catch it. I have too much to do. Egad, can you imagine if I were going to Romantic Times this year? Where would I fit in the page proofs? I just learned about them on the weekend. If I were going to RT, I’d have been extremely busy these last couple of days. As it is, I don’t need to have them back to my editor until Saturday, which is very do-able, whether I get sick or not.

How’s everyone else? Good news to report? Yucky news? What are you working on?

Tell Me Tuesday

I plan on reserving Tuesdays for writing news of all sorts on this blog. Not just my news, but yours, too. So, tell me. What are you working on? Any good news to share? Have bad news and need a hug? The road to publication is filled with hundreds of ups and downs, and so is the road that continues after we sell that first book. Let’s celebrate and commiserate together.

My Good News is that I’m finally back to work on Sex, P.I.s & Packing Tape. I read the first several chapters yesterday, and, I have to say, I like me, I really like me! (Um, I mean, it. I really like it.) Now let’s see how long I get to work on this manuscript before an editor contacts me asking me to work on something else. Packing Tape has turned into my “between projects” manuscript, but that doesn’t mean it’s not deserving and a manuscript I love for itself. I do. But I’m at the mercy of the publication game just like any other writer. And, because I write under two names, sometimes that publication game can feel like a roller-coaster and merry-go-round combined. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Everyone have a great writing day today!
