A good looking man. My father. He didn’t serve in the war, but he was in the army when he found out he had a heart condition. He died when he was 40.
Aw, Edie, I’m sorry about your dad. Thank you so much for dropping by today and sharing.
My grandfather. He was sent to Lubyanka prison in late 1939 and freed after the Nazi/Soviet pact fell apart, but died on the march of General Anders army (all Poles imprisoned in the Soviet Union) as it left Russia for Persia (now Iran). And my father, for his lost childhood, spent in Siberia, then in refugee camps in Persia and Palestine along with my grandmother and his siblings.
And Sean’s grandfathers, both of whom fought and survived, and his grandmother who was a radar operator on the British Coast, bombed by the Luftwaffe and lived the rest of her days with shrapnel in her legs.
Edie – I too am sorry about your dad 🙁
Teresa, what a proud history of fighting injustice you have in your family, although it’s always a shame when so many lives are lost.
Sean’s grandmother sounds like a tough cookie. I’m sure she had many amazing stories to tell.
My husband’s English grandfather died in WWII, so he never met him. He left behind a widow and 5 small children.
