A workaholic trying to break out of her shell and the steadfast police detective who can’t believe what’s unfolding in front of his eyes…

Love at first…falsehood?

Lingerie designer Lacey DeMarco livens up her life by finagling a sexy police detective into attending a rowdy bachelorette party. Lacey needs one last item to complete a scavenger hunt list. Can she help it if handsome cop Derek McAllister fits the bill the same way he fills out his jeans? That is, so much more than nicely…

But a little trickery is at work. Lacey and Derek are both being hoodwinked. In the name of love.

Deceiving Derek is Book 1 in Cindy Procter-King’s Love & Other Calamities Romantic Comedy series of fun and steamy feel-good short romances. Follow Lacey and her girlfriends as they prepare for a wedding and find true love along the way! HEAs guaranteed. Open door, medium heat.

Deceiving Derek is 9000 words

I’m baaack???

My site changed servers a few months ago, and because I’ve been busy recovering from a car accident and working on updated versions of Deceiving Derek and Catching Claire in Love & Other Calamities – and also writing the next three titles in the series, Before Brady, Just Janie, and Trusting Trey – I didn’t realize my blog was broken. I kept trying to publish new posts, to no avail. I spent hours on tech support with my host, to no avail. They even switched my customized Muse Interrupted theme to the 2021, theme and I still couldn’t publish a post.

Most aggravating.

I was about to hire a website designer to fix things when I decided to do ONE LAST TEST. And, well, whatever was glitching for weeks before I went away to trek through Ireland for a month is no longer glitching!

This is good because I really, really, really need to redesign my website, and I want to move it to a WordPress-based site because my web design software is on an old computer I only keep for the software. I need to get with the times and make things mobile-friendly.

So redesigning my site is on my To-Do list for this year.

That said, because I’ve been away from publishing for so long, like 5 years, I made the decision not to put any of the books in Love & Other Calamities on pre-order until all 5 are revised and edited. I’ve learned that when it comes to my neck, skull, and shoulder injuries I just need to put my health first, and besides who wants to read a connected series with months and months between releases?

If you’ve stumbled upon this post and you’ve been wondering, What happened to Cindy? Yeah, I got whacked, multiple times, from behind. And it wasn’t as fun as it sounds. 🙂 I’m now seeing a pain management specialist, getting nerve block injections every 3 months or so, and, on top of my other therapies (of which there are many), I finally feel like I can get on the path to publishing again. I can’t spend much time at the computer. I do 2-3 hours a day of physio, strengthening and yoga just to TRY to get to 4 hour days – with breaks that interrupt my flow. I would really love to get 4 to 5 4-hour writing days a week. I’m not there yet. I can get maybe 2 hour days. I can do a 3 hour day but will pay for it the next day.

I am determined, even as I am reminded that those 6 hour days are lost to me forever. So I’m gonna go ahead with my plan not to put Love & Other Calamities on pre-order until the editing process is complete.

For my readers, that means some aggravating waiting. But I thank you for your understanding.

When the updated versions of Deceiving Derek and Catching Claire are on sale, I’ll let you know here. I won’t be creating new website pages for the series – I will just be putting the links here and/or pointing you to pages hosted on a site like Books2Read or my SleekBio. When I design my new website, I WILL create separate pages for each title, but because of my injuries it seems not a very wise use of my limited time to make 3 new website pages on an old computer with old software and THEN redesign the entire site.

Thank you for your understanding!

PS. You never know, I might change my plans and update my old site before redesigning the new site. If so, I’ll also announce that here.

How to find my books!

Oh, gosh, I haven’t been on my blog in forever. Yes, I am still writing, despite the universe’s attempts to throw me off-course. In my turtle fashion, I am finding my way back!

I am, in fact, working on updating and revising Deceiving Derek and Catching Claire in Love & Other Calamities, and I am writing the next 3 titles in the series, which will be novella length (20,000 – 40,000 words).

After that, I really, really, really need to redesign my website and move it to a mobile-friendly platform. But I don’t want to redesign my site (which I’m doing myself, so will need to learn) until these books are up for preorder.

And…I just found out there is a problem with several of my book links to retailers on the current version of my website. I don’t know when that issue will be fixed, as it’s out of my control. It’s a 3rd-party issue. The best I can do for now, rather than going through every book page and redoing the links, when, due to circumstances arising from a twist of fate about three years ago, would be a real PITA to do and get in the way of finishing my series, I am going to quickly list my books here, and each book will have a Universal Book Link that will take you to the store of your choice.

If you’re reading this blog post on my website, you can take a gander to the sidebar on the right, and each of those book covers, which previously pointed to individual website pages on this site with all the buy links, will now point to a Books2Read Universal Book Link. Same as you’ll find right below.

You are still free to visit my Books page and have a look at individual book pages on this site; it’s just some of the links work and some don’t. You can read excerpts, check out covers, everything you always could do. But if the links on that page don’t work, just come here and use follow a Books2Read Universal Book Link to get to the store of your choice!

Thank you for putting up with this disruption. The problem could be fixed within days, or not. I just don’t know. So this is the best workaround I could think of, as my website design software is truly ancient, and it’s on a 10-year-old computer I don’t often have access to. I want to keep writing my series and THEN redo my website, and I hope you agree that that’s the best use of my time. I do write under a second name, and when I redo my site, I will bring those books into the fold. Moving forward, I am focusing on my books as Cindy.

Irritatingly enough, I can’t figure out how to link the book covers in this post to the links on Books2Read, but you can follow the text links or use the right sidebar!!

That’s it, and thank you for your patience! Trust me when I say I would have been regularly writing and publishing books these last three years if possible. Rather than super slowly putting out the rest of Love & Other Calamities, I thought it best to write them all and THEN slowly come back from. The. Publishing. Grave.

Love in the Pacific Northwest 2-Book Collection!

Hey, all!

I haven’t been around the blog in quite a while. There are myriad reasons, including (a) getting in a car accident in May of 2018 that greatly affected the amount of time I was able to work at my computer; (b) my husband retiring from his “day job” in February 2019, making this a year of transition as we learn how to navigate around each other; and (c) we are renovating the entire basement, which is taking months longer than we anticipated – DH started in April – and any time I might have gotten at the computer since around August has instead been devoted to helping. Yep, I’m finally feeling good enough in my neck and shoulders to write, but instead I’m a carpenter’s assistant.

There, you have all my excuses. Life threw me an unanticipated curveball with the accident. I was rear-ended multiple times by the same fellow, who did not seem to know how to take his foot off the gas. It was kind of like being a piece of popcorn in a hot air maker while riding bumper cars at the fair. The writing, shall we say, has suffered. I promise I will get back to writing soon. In the meantime, I’ve bundled up the first two novels in LOVE IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST at a cost savings to my very patient readers. The collection includes the updated editions of HEAD OVER HEELS and BORROWING ALEX. If you haven’t read them yet, here’s your chance to save some dough over buying the books separately. If you have read one or the other before but want to check out the updated versions, this bundle is where it’s at! Expect a lot of sass, a ton of fun, some hot lovin’, and lots and lots of laughs!

A Thank You to My Readers…

Hey, everyone, let’s face it, there are soooo many fantastic books available to read these days and only so much time…

Sometimes, even when you would dearly love nothing more than to get lost in an emotional story or laugh along with characters who begin to feel like friends as you get to know them, other items top your to-do list.

And some days, some weeks, some months, and, yes, even some years, that to-do list just seems to grow longer and longer. And you begin to wonder when you’ll have time for yourself. To do the things you really want to.

Some years are more challenging than others.

Some days are a breeze, while others are a chore.

I have a TBR pile too. So I know how it is. And, wow, do I have to-do lists! And so do many of my characters, I’ve come to realize. To-do lists, master life plans, kooky missions, and crazy schemes ~ they really do run the gamut.

So, whether you’ve had a chance to take a well-deserved break and read one of my books or my entire library, whether you’ve started a series and are eagerly awaiting more or if you have yet to take a virtual vacation in a CindyPK world, YOU make a difference in my life as an author ~ and I hope I make a difference in yours.

I want to say…THANK YOU for reading my books.

THANK YOU for telling your friends when a story touches you or makes you laugh.

THANK YOU for finding time to leave a review.

Thank you for just being here and sharing my journey. It means so much!
