Snow Days

I had to cancel all my appointments today, and I had a few, including very much needed chiropractor and massage therapy appointments. Luckily, other locals are as snowed in as I am, so I grabbed a couple of cancellations for tomorrow. There goes my first whole day of writing since Eldest Son came home for Christmas.

He made it back to university last night. Had some waits, but at least his flight wasn’t cancelled. If he’d traveled Sunday or today, I’m certain the flights would have gone down the drain.

I can’t remember this much snow in my life. I know we had very snowy winters in the early Seventies, but I was talking to a fellow dog-walker the other day who’s lived in my neighborhood for fifty years, and he says this is the snowiest winter he can recall.

How about you? Is the weather still going crazy in your part of the world? Don’t get me wrong, the snow up here is GORGEOUS, but I have books to mail and I haven’t been to the post office since before Christmas. I haven’t done ANY unnecessary driving. However, walking in deep snow in Sorels is great exercise, and my dog does love to walk, no matter the weather. At least I’m getting my exercise!

  1. Cindy, my driveway is ice. My husband is making it out to work and back, but I haven’t been out of the house since Sunday. It’s good for my writing!

  2. It’s going to be 70-something here for the rest of the week. I haven’t worn snow boots since I was 10. Sigh. You stomp through some snow for me and I’ll open a window for you. 🙂

  3. Wow – I heard you guys got yet more snow! No wonder you turned the car around.

Our situation here is slowly improving, though I’m still not really able to do much with our driveway – it curves in two spots and the very wet snow covered by rain doesn’t make it easy to negotiate, especially given that in one spot, if I miss, I’ll be in the ditch!!

At least we had a white Christmas AND we got to skate on our little pond 🙂 THAT was great exercise too. And yeah, walking in deep snow is a great workout.

  4. Hi blog-buddies!

Today it’s mild, and everything is melting (as much as tons of snow CAN melt…let’s say, everything is slushing). Son and DH are both coming home early to get some of the snow off the roof, because it’s hanging over the gutters and it’s very, very thick. Yeah, the snow is melting today, but when it freezes again that snow hanging off the roof will get very dangerous. So will the roads. DH bought me little snow grippers for my ankle boots because I seem to suffer one bad fall every winter. My goal this winter is – no falls!

  5. Teresa,

The snow turning to rain is VERY dangerous, and people wonder why people in some coastal communities get so freaked out when it snows. If you live in an area where snow is rare, I can imagine it’s treacherous, indeed.

But I finally got to my chiro and MTs appts, and I’m feeling much better.

  6. Good to hear 🙂 I can only imagine how relieved you were to get those appointments and be able to keep them.

Your DH sounds lovely – be sure to wear those grippers!!

We often have more snow where we are, because we’re about halfway up a mountain, often right on the snow line. Within a four minute drive, there’s pretty much no snow left, but it’s STILL white outside the house!!

  7. Well, the DH knew to get me the grippers, because I asked for the grippers, LOL. Still, I’m surprised how well they work.

Amazing, Teresa, how the weather changes so quickly, isn’t it? We used to live in a small logging town. Driving there from where we live now, there was a point where you could guarantee that, suddenly, the snow would be a foot higher. It was like driving through an invisible curtain.

  8. Your grippers sound like a wonderful solution for avoiding spills. You’re well on your way to making your goal! 🙂 Ihope flooding doesn’t cause you too many problems.

    All the best!
